NUMBER 1

Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website).
I looked at how to take great photos. I also learned how to communicate with the subject to get the perfect photo.

What did you learn new?

I learned that breaking the rules of photography can make the photo even more unique and beautiful.
If possible, post your favorite photo from the site.

If you have a photo to post, please answer the following questions:
a.     Why did you pick this photo? I picked this photo because I liked that it was black and white, the subject was lying down and looking away, and it makes the viewer question why there is a berry on his nose.
b.     What rules of photography do you see in the photo? I see perspective.
c.     Who took the photo? the photographer was not cited.

NUMBER 2

Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website). What did you learn new?
I watched a video about the forest that seemed to be a time lapse video. I learned that it took six weeks to make and that illuminating things with a projector will make them appear to be glowing.

If you looked at a video, please do the following:
a.     Describe what you saw in the video. There were lots of scenes of the outdoors and inside the woods. Small plants and animals that maybe not everyone would notice.
b.     Try to figure out who made the video. If it was a photographer look them up on google and see if you can learn more about them. Tarek Mawad and Friedrich van Schoor
c.     If there is a story about the video on the website, paraphrase it in 2-3 sentences. Two photographers spent six weeks in a forest capturing different aspects and life in that forest.
d.     What did you learn new? I learned that creating the projections live in the forest it made the photos have a faux -bioluminescence

NUMBER 3

Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website). What did you learn new?
The article that I read was about the art of taking photos of abandoned staircases in East Germany. Apparently it's very difficult to find a staircase that is good to photograph.

If you have a photo to post, please answer the following questions:
a.     Why did you pick this photo? I picked this photo because I loved how vibrant and confusing it looked. I love how the staircase is a definite spiral and looks worn.
b.     What rules of photography do you see in the photo? I see perspective (birds eye) and i also see the rule of thirds because the center of the staircase is off centered a little bit.
c.     Who took the photo? Christian Richter

NUMBER 4

Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website). What did you learn new?
I learned that there are several things in this world that are thousands of years old and that it is "part art and part science."This is also a very fresh and new idea.

If you have a photo to post, please answer the following questions:
a.     Why did you pick this photo? I picked this photo because I loved how the tree was split open so that the inside was bare but you could also see the bark as well.
b.     What rules of photography do you see in the photo? I see rule of thirds, because the tree was set off to the side of the photo.
c.     Who took the photo? Rachel Sussman

NUMBER 5

Briefly describe what you looked at on the website (2-3 sentences, make sure you write enough to really make it clear that you spent time looking at the website). What did you learn new?
On this website I watched a video that was a time lapse video on Rio. The photographer explains that it was something he was interested in doing and enjoyed watching all the subjects in the video. He has also done time lapse videos in Iceland and Greenland.

If you looked at a video, please do the following:
a.     Describe what you saw in the video. The video was a time lapse of Rio.
b.     Try to figure out who made the video. If it was a photographer look them up on google and see if you can learn more about them. Joe Capra, he originally just did regular photography but got enticed by another photographer's time lapse work.
c.     If there is a story about the video on the website, paraphrase it in 2-3 sentences. It would take quite some time to make the video because it was over such a long period of time. Joe Capra would make sure to give all the subjects time to make it into the camera.
d.     What did you learn new? I learned that if you want to make a time lapse video you must invest a lot of time to get great shots as well as have the ability to see all possible subjects.

1. What is the name of the magazine that you looked at and who made it?
The name of the magazine was "Friday Night Lights" made by Jessica Stachew.

2. List two things you liked about the magazine cover
I really loved the picture itself because it was up close and personal with the subject and I also really like the font of the title and the red blur at the top of the magazine.

3. Suggest something to the creator to improve the cover
I think the creator needed some more ads on the from of the magazine because it seems like there's only one ad.

4. Why did you pick this cover? Specifically what attracted your eyes.
I picked this photo because the subject was impeccably clear and the photo was awesome and candid.

5. Is there a bar code?
Yes.

6. Did that make it more "magazine-like"?
Yes, it does look magazine like.

7. Can you tell if it was a portrait or self-portrait?
It's most definitely a portrait. Not a self portrait.

PEER REVIEW

http://catherinesphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com

Which photo do you like best? Why?
My favorite photo was the "the end" photo which was an book opened up to the epilogue. I loved this photo because the words were blurred and it was just "EPILOGUE" that was in focus which I thought was a beautiful touch.

Which is your least favorite image? Why?
My least favorite image would probably have to be the pose photo, even though it was a great photo just because it wasn't a unique pose and it looks a bit more candid than actually posed and it was a it unfocused. But it was an adorable photo!!

Overall, make two positive statements about their pictures.
I love how unique the photos were and how the ideas were fresh. I also really loved how the viewer would have to look closely at the photo to tell what the prompt was making it a bit of a challenge, but a good challenge.

Overall, what is one area that this person could improve upon in your opinion.
I think that the one thing that this person could improve on would be centering the camera a bit and focusing a bit as well, but honestly all the pictures were wonderful.

Which prompt do you think they did the best portraying, from your perspective?
The best portrayal would definitely be "the end" because their idea for the prompt was insightful and quite artistic. Plus the photo was awesome in the way it was focused.

Which prompt do you think they did the least successfully portray, from your perspective?
I think that pose would probably be the prompt that they didn't do the best on just because the photo was a bit blurry, but it was a great photo!

2014 REFLECTION

PART ONNNNNNE

I like this photo because the moon is so much in detail and the viewer can see how large it is in comparison to the people and the buildings. I also really like that the sky is completely clear except the moon.

I really loved this photo because its really nice and fluffy and just quite appealing to the eye. I like that there is also an airplane in the cloud and that it's not quite in the middle so the rule of thirds is used. I like how the sky is also showing slightly in the background.

I really love this photo because it shows that celebrities are just people. Yes, for some reason people of the world worship these people because of the things that they do but in the reality of it all, they aren't all that special. I also loved the fact that everyone just jumped into the photo and its not edited.

BEST SONG

ANIMALS by MAROON 5
I liked this song a lot because it was so catchy and it was really easy to memorize. The song itself wasn't really all that impressive but the beat was good and the instruments were good. I think that this is one of my favorite Maroon 5 songs besides Wake Up Call.

BEST MOVIE

THE LEGO MOVIE

I absolutely fell in love with this movie because it was so innocent yet it was absolutely hilarious. I loved the fact that it was appropriate for all ages and it was humorous for all ages and how sarcasm is used. I loved how profound the ending was to older audiences and how sweet and magical it appeared to be to the younger audience.

MOST IMPORTANT NEWS STORY

I think that this idea was so incredibly awesome because there were so many Coke sales just because of this one man's idea to just write down names on the back. I feel like this change in coke has made a huge impact on the Coke industry and that it makes them see so much more appealing.

MOST IMPORTANT PERSON

I think that JLaw was the most important person because her acting career has completely gone up and her fame is extreme now at the beginning of this new year. I think that for the most part she's a great influence on the audience and I really love her acing skills.

MOST IMPORTANT ENTERTAINMENT ICON

Robin williams was definitely the most important entertainment icon of 2014 and his death affected the whole world. Robin Williams was a legendary actor who's jokes and smiles brightened up everyone's day. I remember growing up watching his movies and always laughing until my stomach hurt. The day before his death I was thinking about legendary actors and he was at the top of my list. I have never cried because of the death of an actor but I definitely could feel the tears in my eyes when I found out he had passed.

1. Tell me what is the one thing that happened on your holiday that you will remember? It can be a trip, a family visit, a present, something fun.
This year was fun because I was able to spend new years with my best friend. It was small and simple, we drank tea outside and ate nachos while waiting for it to be midnight and just talked, but it was by far the best new years I have ever had.

2. What are your resolutions for the 2015 year?
I don't really have any. I guess try to do better at everything I do.

3. What are you looking forward to in 2015?
I'm looking forward to being one year closer to being 18 ;) haha.
